Creating My Own Framework For Interacting With Others On Social Media
Debating Others Online
Man oh man, we are not holding back are we! No sir! We are starting right off the bat with a big one! Online Debate! Because who doesn’t enjoy yelling at complete strangers about the finer intricacies relating to whether or not Pluto is a planet! Or some other equally important topic!
There are idiots online, and it is our job to set them straight! Right!! Can I get an amen? Anyone… Crickets? So, then, if we mostly all agree that arguing with idiots is a waste of time, why do we get sucked into these back and forth intellectual exercises so easily and so often?
A couple of important notes:
Firstly, a reminder that this journey is your own. As promised, we will not attempt to convince you that either debating or not debating is acceptable behavior. In fact, we actually think there may very well be times when debate is a good idea on social media. Our purpose is only to help you be reflective and to make up your own mind about what your own limits aught to be, so that you feel comfortable.
Secondly, not everyone enjoys debate. If you are not a debater, then you could probably skip this section, since you already know what your framework is when it comes to debate. Which is: AVOID DEBATE AT ALL COSTS!
For the rest of us, who don’t mind a little bit of light online banter, let’s explore the topic a little further, so that we can find our own comfy limits.
